Almost 2 years ago, one of the last great representatives of jazz
from the circle around John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, left the bandstand of this world.
Sanders was an icon of avant-garde jazz and a shining light of Afro-American music. A saxophonist with an exceptionally unique sound and an equally personal instrumental style.
His enormously expressive playing combined the blues with Coltrane’s expressiveness and spirituality to create a unique sound aesthetic.
He is also considered one of the founders of ethno jazz, often incorporating the spiritual traditions of Africa into his music.
Reason enough for the German Saxophone Star Johannes Enders to celebrate this great tenor Titan with a tribute.
He was able to win over Netherlands No. 1 bassist Joris Teepe (10 years with Rahid Ali) and the US drum legend Gene Calderazzo, who accompanied the Pharoah on stages around the world in in recent years and even played his last concert in London.
